Our Commitment to Excellence in Pet Care
Colony Animal Hospital has been caring for pets of the Newport News, VA area since 1962. Since then, we have been passionate about treating every pet and owner with dignity and respect while providing the highest quality of care. We consistently strive to enhance the human/animal bond and maintain a professional, compassionate atmosphere. It was this mission that led our hospital to seek accreditation with the American Animal Hospital Association, also known as AAHA, in 1967.
What Is AAHA?
AAHA is a renowned veterinary organization that sets the standard of veterinary excellence, helping professionals all over the United States and Canada provide the best possible care in their facilities. To set this standard, AAHA created a list of over 900 stringent standards related to veterinary medicine, including anesthesia, surgery, dental care, pharmacy, laboratory, patient care, pain management, record-keeping, disease prevention, client service, practice leadership, safety, and continuing education.
Animal hospitals can choose to be evaluated on these standards and earn accreditation status if these standards are met. Unlike human hospitals, accreditation for veterinary hospitals is purely voluntary. To date, less than 15% of veterinary practices in the United States and Canada have met AAHA's accreditation standards, and Colony Animal Hospital is proud to be one of them.
