Wellness Care
Preventative Medicine
Because every animal that we see is special, we do not consider any procedure routine. Every animal receives a comprehensive physical examination before any procedure, including annual vaccines. During this examination (which your pet should have at least once a year) the doctor listens to your pet's heart and lungs, palpates (feels) the abdomen for any abnormalities and checks the ears, teeth, eyes and skin. If you have noticed any changes in your pet's routine or behavior, this is the time to discuss it with your veterinarian. Colony Animal Hospital believes in preventative medicine and is committed to education and early diagnosis. If and when your pet does have a problem, the doctors and staff are dedicated to providing you and your pet with state-of-the-art technology and medical care in a personalized atmosphere.
Behavioral Counseling
Undesirable behaviors can be stressful for both you and your pet. The veterinarians at Colony Animal Hospital work with you and your pet to help curb unwanted behavior, phobias and other conditions. We have many years experience with behavioral counseling and can create a training plan that's suited to your pet's specific needs.
Pediatric Programs
You've welcomed a new puppy or kitten into your home - congratulations! A puppy or kitten that is well vaccinated early in life is off to a super start that will carry through for years to come. In addition to a thorough physical examination, parasite examination and preventive measures (i.e., heartworm preventative and flea control) will make sure that your new family member is healthy and happy. These early examinations are a great time to ask us questions about your pet's health. Together, we can create a health care plan for your pet that keeps your new family member happy and healthy.
Nutritional Counseling
The doctors at Colony Animal Hospital are committed to keeping current in the ever improving area of pet nutrition. We keep a complete stock of prescription pet foods (available only through a veterinarian) to help our patients with kidney, heart, allergic, diabetic, intestinal or urinary conditions, as well as prescription foods for weight loss and the special dietary needs of senior pets.
Senior Health Care
Senior pets have special needs! Dogs and cats age much faster than we do - approximately seven times as fast. That means an annual exam of your pet is comparable to you going to your doctor once every seven years. Early detection means early intervention: physical examinations, analysis of blood and urine, ECG, blood pressure and measurement of eye pressure are all vital components to an early disease detection plan for older patients. If problems are detected, we can begin appropriate therapy much earlier, improving the treatment outcome. Our special Senior Health Care plan for older pets helps ensure you and your pet enjoy many more happy years together.
Reproductive Services
We offer reproductive management services that include artificial insemination, ovulation staging, pregnancy determination (including ultrasound examinations), whelping information and, when necessary, Cesarean section deliveries.
Full Service Pharmacy
We maintain a fully stocked pharmacy and are able to dispense 98% of our pharmaceuticals on-site. Our convenient refill service means that your pet's prescription is often available at the end of your appointment.
Microchipping
Lost or missing pets are always a tragedy. You can help increase the chances that your pet returns home safe and sound by microchipping your faithful companion. Microchips are encoded with unique information about your pet that corresponds to a national pet database. A microchip is implanted beneath your pet's skin in a procedure similar to a vaccination. If he or she becomes lost, a veterinary hospital or animal shelter uses a special scanner to detect and read the microchip, which leads to a happy reunion for you and your pet. Colony Animal Hospital uses the Home Again microchip system. Please ask a veterinarian or staff member for information about scheduling your pet's microchip appointment today.
Exotic Pet Care
Do you have a pet with fur, scales or feathers? Colony Animal Hospital can help! Though we primarily treat dogs and cats, our veterinarians also are able to treat rabbits, ferrets, small rodents and assorted "pocket pets," such as hedgehogs, hamsters, reptiles, turtles, birds, chinchillas, and guinea pigs. We understand the unique needs of your exotic pet and provide high-quality, compassionate care for your one-of-a-kind pet.
