Surgical Care
Your pet deserves the best surgical care possible. At Colony Animal Hospital, your pet's safety and comfort during his or her surgery is our highest priority. We use the latest veterinary surgical techniques and equipment as part of your pet's surgery. We perform a wide range of surgeries, including spay/neuter procedures, as well as soft tissue, orthopedic and dental procedures. Our veterinarians are also capable of performing surgery on some pocket pets, such as rabbits, ferrets, rats, guinea pigs, and hedgehogs.
Surgical Capabilities
Our surgical suite is part of the new addition to the hospital. Both soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries are preformed routinely at Colony Animal Hospital. Our doctors are experienced in a wide range of procedures from spaying, neutering and Cesarean sections to more advanced surgeries such as anterior cruciate ligament repair, fracture reduction and repair (bone plating, external fixation), and exploratories. Every precaution is taken to assure your pets' safety and comfort. All anesthetized patients are closely monitored with sophisticated wireless Bluetooth monitoring equipment which constantly evaluates their heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation of the blood (pulse oximeter), blood pressure, CO2 levels, temperature, and cardiac electrical activity (ECG). We use state-of-the art anesthetics, and special attention is always paid to pain management. All surgery patients are placed on a warm air circulating blanket.
Pain management is very important at Colony Animal Hospital, both post-operatively and in disease conditions. Reducing post-operative pain allows your pet to recover more quickly and comfortably. We use innovative methods such as constant rate infusion, nerve blocks, transdermal patches, and the most effective pain management pharmaceuticals. Because our patients can't talk, we constantly monitor them for pain and manage it as indicated to ensure their comfort.
Intensive Care Unit
Our intensive care unit is located in the heart of our treatment area, so your pet is continually monitored. All intensive care units are individually climate-controlled. Included in the ICU is a wildlife/exotic unit, and a critical care unit with controlled temperature, oxygen, and humidity.
