Avian & Exotic Pet Care
In addition to providing veterinary care to dogs and cats, Colony Animal Hospital gladly welcomes avian and exotic pets to our practice. Our doctors are specially trained to meet the wellness needs of various avian and exotic animal species. They're also knowledgeable on the various diseases and conditions that can affect these pets, including adrenal disease (ferrets), GI stasis (rabbits), and sinus issues (birds).
To keep your exotic pet healthy, we recommend that they have a physical wellness exam at least once a year, just as we do for our canine and feline patients. These visits include an in-depth discussion on husbandry and diet, as these are the two items that are most commonly linked to exotic pet illnesses. We also perform fecal exams on many of our exotic pet patients to check for internal parasites as well as a blood screen to ensure that your pet is in good health.
If you’re a first-time exotic pet owner, please feel free to let us know about any questions or concerns you have on how to best care for your pet at home. Our goal is to give you the knowledge you need to care for your furry or feathery friend helping them live a long, happy, and healthy life.
